Psychosynthesis can awaken us more fully into life

Thomas Yeomans, Ph.D categories these awakenings in his book Holy Fire in very clear way:

* There is self awareness (will to look inside) and capability to observe and be aware of your experiences. The self / the space of I / the centeredness can be daily, however there are instances when this is not happening and we stay dominated by our unconscious material and driven by different unconscious impulses and needs. Here self reflective capability is necessary for the center becoming more rooted.

* Second is the awareness of our soul and being able to express from there. Here is a shift from identity from personality to soul.

* Third is the awakening to this world here rather than above it. It is transcendence to descendence. Soul expresses down and in rather than up and out.

* Fourth is the synthesis of the second and third and contains the word "realization". To really realize who we are and make this real in this world. There is also the realization of who we are in the universe and an experience of total interrelatedness and interbeing with all Life near and far.

Note: Existential/duality crises may be occurring and here can be crises in between the relationship with soul and personality. For instance; personality may be well integrated, but cuts off from any connection to the soul. Also, the personality can be "spiritualized" and thinks it's close to the soul, but in fact, is trapped in spiritual-seeming identifications and so, caught in a duality between personality and soul.

Kadermo has always been such a beautiful place to be 💖 Actually in today's guided meditation by @beinghome.nu I had an image of me standing in a path in Kadermo when Rolandjan asked something such as; to be in "beingness", beyond identifications.. 🌠 I don't remember exact words at all, but that feeling of freedom, lightness and joy.. 💝

System Theory

During the Psychosynthesis training we had a guest teacher Mark Horowitz. He introduced System Theory that for me was complementary when looking at interaction with others. Psychosynthesis too looks at the whole of us, but it starts from the individual process and when in touch with the core of us our actions are in aligned with life in general.
 

What is system theory; in short it brings understanding to what is a functional and dysfunctional system; a system being a group (family, groups, organisation..).
In general human systems are created to make life better and are defined by some boundary (for example common purpose).

All of us play a part in human systems where we can create conditions either for well-being or craziness. In these systems the change in one person affects the whole and also the change in the whole system affects all individuals; here we can see how interconnected we are in a system.

What we also need to understand is that the system does take on a life of its own as we emerge with multitude people within the system (or with a system of two participants). We can look at the system like own identity or personality, with own behaviours and conscious and unconscious rules. And these behaviours and rules of the systems can either be Life-affirming (functional) that is supportive and energising or Life-deadening (dysfunctional) that can have low morale and fighting.

Healthy system would be described as a Life-affirming system where the participants are nurtured and while people take care of the wellbeing of the system itself. Life with capital L as Mark defines it to indicate the largest whole and also as he believes this whole to be sacred and mysterious.
In a healthy system there is information flow and all are treated as human beings where individuals can make choices for themselves and for the system as a whole.

Unhealthy system is seen as Life-deadening as it can be destroying individuals aliveness and sense of self. Mark believes that extreme dysfunctional systems can for example include secrecy, isolation, control of members, paranoia and sense of righteousness.

In the dysfunctional forces the aids are: Observing the system as whole, as an entity, the finger pointing to do not serve, but rather seeing how WE all are responsible and start the discussion of what action WE as a system need to take together. Here the individual might also need to create courage to express what is needed from others, what the individual can offer and also expressing who they are (as an expression of Life). Any “feeling like a victim” can work well for the wake-up call for reclaiming one's own power and choice back in any relationship or situation. Individuals also need to see how to express care and love in a way that brings people together. Empathy and compassion for others is also needed but in a way that the individual does not give up their own needs or group’s needs + listening skills in a way that the system can actually learn and grow.

If we get to understand how the human systems work we get to also help these systems to become more Life-affirming. The pitfall of not understanding how the system works, the system can start to take a life of its own and even end up dictating the conditions of our lives.
So coming back to the reminder; in general the purpose of the system was that the system originally is created to make life better.

For those called to understand how to express themselves in a system I would also recommend "NVC; Nonviolent Communication - A language of life" by Marshall Rosenberg, PhD. ~ Conscious communication setting principles that support compassion, collaboration, courage and authenticity; increasing meaning, connection and satisfying relationships ~. You can also find a lot of videos in YouTube about NVC.

Inner freedom of choice

PART 1/3 Inner freedom of choice (introduction and the ‘self’)

My final presentation on Psychosynthesis training was about ‘inner freedom of choice’ and what that actually means. It included my own process, learnings and the steps taken during our whole training + included relationship dynamics and system thinking (bigger groups e.g. family, work community) as a base.

Here I’ll present the theoretical framework behind individual as you may yourself reflect what might be meaningful for you at this point in your life.

So, coming to the inner freedom of choice: When we get to be in the contentless awareness we can make conscious choices. Simple, however so many factors influence this in the light of Psychosynthesis (transpersonal psychology that combines both the personality and transpersonal aspects).

So this place of contentless awareness is called the ‘self’ which contains the awareness and also our aligned will that is strong, skilful and good..

How to even experience this place of being? Psychosynthesis meditations aids there, into presence, awareness and surely many other forms of conscious methods touch here too.

This place of ‘self’ is known to be a place of awareness beyond any personality content. By personality content I mean, the way you for example are with other people and with some others you might be seeing different behaviour in yourself.

This place of ‘self’ is also a place from where you get to observe. Observing the present thoughts, feelings, sensations. Being aware of them as an observer.

Coming back to making choices. In psychosynthesis we look at six different psychological functions that can help us to inform. The functions of the ‘self’. These are our thinking, sensations, feelings, imagination, desire/impulse and intuition. However some can be distorted, weak, overruling. But there are ways to bring these functions more into balance so that they can actually act as our allies and not against us.


PART 2/3 Inner freedom of choice (personality)

Then the personality part and referred to conscious choice making. There are many parts of us that have different wants and needs. Some of the behaviour is very rooted into childhood by survival, how we got attention and were even confirmed by it. However these parts of us also have a beautiful inherent quality underneath.

Many times we are pulled by our parts of personality that do make the decisions. And surely the needs of the parts of us needs to be validated and met, however this can be different from a really aligned place of choosing. Parts of us have wants (that can be quite rigid), needs (that already are more flexible) and a quality underneath (bit about qualities later in the text). Sometimes a part of us can even behave in a way that is getting further from the real need and the quality that it can bring. For example; part that can be called a ‘doer’ can be so busy, good at doing things and have a strong will, the need can be order and quality harmony and peace. If this ‘doer’ really takes over (with a strong will which is not the same than aligned will that is also skilful and good), then the person might not even be able to experience the core qualities (peace and harmony). The harm only starts when the parts of us start to take us (the self) over.. we have all these parts of us and thorough them we do express our personality, however we are more than that. We are something way beyond.

Back to the conscious choice making.. if it becomes hard to make these conscious choices we also do then need to integrate our past related learnings; such as these parts of us (sub personalities that may take us over), look at l.o.a.f.ings (limiting ideas, outdated beliefs, assumptions, fears) and F, C, R (family-, culture-, religion of origin).

The idea is to bring these to light, into our consciousness. Recognise, accept, co-ordinate, integrate and eventually into synthesis.

What this allows is that we have more choices visible. Sometimes feeling you do not have a choice? Most likely it is a strong past learning of yours that do not see other options..


PART 3/3 Inner freedom of choice (values, meaning, qualities + conclusion)

What also makes the conscious choice really our calling is that we realise what we value, what has meaning for us and in Psychosynthesis this is expressed firstly in the light of qualities, not forms. For example a form can be a job title, house, vacation and quality can be energy, peace, joy, ease, love.. If it's hard to think what are meaningful qualities for you; you can look at the meaningful forms in your life and ask from yourself; what does this actually bring to me? Sense of love, union, thankfulness, bliss, freedom, wisdom.. ? And to know these qualities you can start to see that the forms do not need to be the same. Form can change. There are many ways of meeting these qualities. Also sometimes as we see that some forms do not function anymore, it might be that we do not meet our meaningful qualities anymore and that is why it is actually beneficial to let go of the forms as they do not serve anymore.

There are many practices and guided meditations to access all of this. Psychosynthesis coaching also uses ‘just’ talking and reflecting to come to insights and to next steps to be taken.

So this is the theory behind coming to inner freedom of choice that is aligned, it’s also about owning your choice, taking responsibility, stepping into being the willer/the chooser or maybe disowning and finding out that something is not in the alignment.

Loving the Buddhist saying of a ‘pointing finger can guide us to the moon’. For me the frame of Psychosynthesis is like the finger, as without it we might not even notice the moon. In this Buddhist saying the emphasis is not to mistake the finger for the moon, but to look at the moon 🌕

In our expanding consciousness we may easily be present in our beingness and take profound actions into manifestations that are connected to our inherent qualities.

About Psychosynthesis and Coahing


 






























 

In short Psychosynthesis integrates and works with personality and transpersonality (call it spirituality, I myself like to use the word soul).

Psychosynthesis belongs to the fourth force in psychology that looks not only past and now but the direction which is uniquely fulfilling for the individual. This is in connection to something deeper, like what people might experience also through yoga or meditation or other conscious methods/lifestyles or by simply living. It's about growth and expansion, integration, awareness, meanings, potential, discovery, taking responsibility for own self and at the same time that is beneficial in so many ways to the surroundings that we live in. 

Psychosynthesis coach works as a guide to help the individual to get in touch with their true voice that speaks the individual's meanings, callings, directions to take, with what needs to be looked at to function more fully, own values, purpose. True voice that is free of conditionings (family, culture, religion), free from limited and out dated beliefs.. looking fresh with potential and within reality.
Coach can be a guide for meaning, for fuller life, helping to shine light on challenges and blocks, guiding for integrated functional presence and guide for next steps to take, guiding for presence and expanded consciousness and helping to ignite the good kind of fire for any actions to take.

Tools used in a session vary according to client or group, however they are in a roam of psychological functions; thinking, connecting to sensing, connecting to feelings, imaginations, desires and impulses + intuition. Example tools in a group can be within guided meditations, guided imaginary, working with one client same but also and maybe even mainly round talking and asking meaningful questions to bring insights.

Answer the call of qualities ✨

What does it mean?

Example; today's nature,
qualities important for me were beauty, serenity. I breath fully, absorb. I'm present and there is a call to walk different paths, making choices from centered place (not only for example from thinking which is one of the *psychological functions we use).
I feel connection 💚🌲🏞✨

Qualities
Beauty, serenity, I breath fully (can be ease, inclusiveness, vitality as quality for me).
There is also presence and will (action).. connection too.

So in your life, these found qualities for example in things that you really enjoy, see how important these qualities are in your life and which ones are most valid for now. Surely some others will be there too..

Referring to this nature example:
Not being depended on going to nature, can I bring these meanigful qualities into how I think, what I do and say.
If this is not possible, there most likely is an obstacle to meet. Even when still consicously choosing the quality and the new way keeps on having difficulties for a longer period of time (there can be trying, pushing, confusion, emotions / more imbalance than before).. Obstacle(s) is (are) then part of personality (lower unconscious/past or/and middle unconscious/presence) developement and
integration in Psychosynthesis as the qualities are part of the transpersonal part of the Psychosynthesis; about our soul, calling, meanings, values, purpose, potential..

In this example of nature;
surely the outer supports but see what happens in your life when you start slowly living the qualities from inside out 💝 Starting maybe only with one and enjoy the growth and expansion into wholeness.

Hello and the latest posts in Instagram

If you are dropping by here, I wish that you are doing well.
I'm much enjoying the spring light and nature slowly waking up to life.

Few months till finishing the Psychosynthesis Life Coach / BBC (Board Certified Coach) training. Although it will be on paper finished, it did invite to a deep rich journey of a lifetime. And ongoing continuous study with teachers with many decades in the field.
What I can shortly say about psychosynthesis is that it is a very beautiful journey to the core of our being (like yoga and meditation traditions can also be), however it adds an aspect of the psychology, personality integration (our todays personality traits are formed by our past) and a conscious way to direct living to deep meaningful, purposeful and valuable life that is uniquely our own.

If you are interested in this kind of process, then maybe we get to work together somewhere in future.
Process that is about being curious, being willing to look at things that you have chosen to look at as they are (honestly), being willing to take action for yourself and discovering deep meaningful qualities to live by.. this all brings wholeness and connection and capacity to live life even more fully. It can be an eye-opening journey, full of discoveries and maybe even profound changes internally and externally too.

Let's see in what kind of forms I'll be offering on this in the future.
So this is at least something that is starting to grow and come to the world in my life 🌱🌿🌸

The form I wish to offer for you now, is:

How about you? What have you been planting or what would you like to plant?
And when looking at this in the light of Psychosynthesis, the things you are planting, into your life:
Are or can they be connected to something that really calls you, what you enjoy or even love?
What is the next step you are willing and able to take into the growth?
You can also look at the obstacles, you can look at the things you need, but keep the seed most important, the seed of the calling, the qualities that are meaningful for you. Some qualities to live by you can find here on my Instagram post from January 2022.
You do not need to yet know what kind of form(s) it will bring into life. Just taking tiny step, quality or qualities that you are called upon and what ways can you start living with them, in your internal world, towards yourself and toward the outer life in actions and with beings around.

💙 NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION 💛

“Our bodies are heard-wired for one sole purpose: survival!”
When the automatic programmes hits to protect us we can experience the fight, flight and freeze responses.

What to do in this high activation stage to calm down the nervous system from any self-protective stress response?
5 simple things to pick some tools;

Be present with a few objects in the room where you are. One by one and describe them in detail, really looking at them. This can really create a feeling of safety if you are in a safe environment and the nervous system can start to calm down.

Be aware of any contact points to the surfaces (ground, chair, bed). Really feel how your weight can rest on them.

Breathe. Focus on the exhale. Exhale longer than you inhale.
For example 3 to 4 seconds in hold a second and breathe out for 5 to 6 seconds. Can also be longer, as long as your exhale is longer.

Connect with healthy organisms; nature! We pick up energy and send out energy.. not only with nature but anything living..

Think of a nourishing experience for you. How does that feel..? It can be something that has happened in the past or something imagined. Our body reacts to real facts but also anything imagined.. so you can use it as a tool to create pleasurable response.

These were some examples by Sara Vatore. She was a guest teacher in yesterday's training (Psychosynthesis) and she has written an article “Body (Soma) Wisdom” which is in a book; The Call of Self: Psychosynthesis Life Coaching. Sara is i.a. Psychosynthesis Coach and Somatic Experiencing ® Practitioner (Peter Levine).

Those on yoga, meditation path. You might already know what formal and informal practice does and can be a good help for the nervous system regulation already.
However, simple reminders during the day sometimes can be needed.
Move the energy; by movement, breath. 
Meet your feelings, sensations, thoughts when possible to process.. as whatever rises will eventually pass..
Jill Bolte Taylor an American neuroscientist has said: “It takes 1,5 minutes for an emotion to come and go.” In a light of Psychosynthesis this is possible when we are able to

dis-identify, so we do not keep adding fuel to the fire by our stories, toughts and imaginations.. however sometimes we do need to identify for a while or longer before we can actually dis-identify (so that we are not bypassing) and then we can self-identify; which is “the truth” of who we are” and not just some or few parts of us.
